Friday Prelims
Mitch and I had the morning off today because we’re swimming the 800 free relay and it’s only swum at night, so we had the chance to just hang out and soak it all in. It was an extraordinarily late night last night after dinner with all the parents, so we were really tired when we went to bed. Timmy, Chip, and I decided to try a different sleep configuration and it seemed to work out pretty well. We were supposed to meet Coach downstairs for breakfast at 8:30, so Timmy and I had Chip get us up at 8:29 to head down. Actually, Caleb was the one who woke us up with lots of yelling and hugging. We rolled downstairs for a breakfast of runny eggs and greasy bacon, but it’s convenient and fast. The biggest prelim race of the meet was the 200 medley relay, and Grove City came through in the clutch. Despite a few major teams DQ-ing on false starts, we still would have been top eight. We ended up in fifth, with extremely fast splits from Gilbert (25.90) and Timmy (19.92). Peterman had a nice swim, but his relay reaction was super slow with a +.47! At least is was a safe start, but he will be way faster tonight. Chip had a good swim in the 400 IM but missed finals, and Caleb maintained a steady pace in his 200 putting him in thirteenth heading into the evening. Gilbert got dead last in the 100 breast, but his first 50 yards looked very solid- which will come in handy tonight during the medley. We’ll probably hit up Wimpy’s for burgers again today since it brought us great luck yesterday in finals. I hear it’s snowy and cold back in Grove City, but no worries here- it’s still sunny and we’re all wearing shorts and t-shirts. There’s pollen everywhere too, making me sneeze.
